9km hiking trail
The 9 km route is more demanding, with steep climbs and varied terrain that take longer than the distance suggests. The trail winds through poplar groves and indigenous bush, continues beneath dramatic sandstone cliffs, and challenges hikers with ascents named “Heartbreak Hill” and “Moedbreek Hoogte.”
Along the way, you can visit “God’s Window,” a magnificent cave reached either by the exposed “Ledge” or the easier “Chicken Run.”
Once at the top, there is a suspended bridge which leads you to the Camel Head rock formation, further up the plateau you reach Caesar’s View, where the Maluti Mountains stretch across the horizon. On the descent, look out for blesbok in the game camp before the trail drops into a shaded gorge and returns through poplar trees to the river pools. This route is best suited to those looking for a full, adventurous hike with spectacular scenery.
